This week we get a look into what student athletes Ruqiya Ahmed and Neeharika Boni Bangari have been up to!  Both are attending LDH in person and have taken on the roles of students council co presidents!  The are doing a great job and are currently helping to bring LDH together in our annual Toy Mountain campaign.  LDH athletics is extremely proud of this dynamic duo!  Read on to see “Whats Up!”

From the desk of  Co Prez:Ruqiya Ahmed:

What teams have you played on at LDH?

In the past 4 years, I have been a member  of rugby, swim and xc  ski teams.

What are you looking ahead to doing after you are done at LDH?  School? work?

After I graduate, I am planning on studying human rights and social justice but haven’t had a chance to decide where just yet.

Favourite sport?

My favourite sport to play is rugby. It’s taught me a lot and showed me how to really work as a team.

What do you miss most about RAVEN ATHLETICS?

The one I miss most about raven athletics is the atmosphere. The hype of home games and being able to see my peers just as excited as I was to watch our teams play.

Favourite colour?

My favourite colour is yellow.

Favourite pro sports team?

In all honesty, I don’t really stay up to date with pro sports.

Favourite food

My favourite food is definitely sushi.

Member of a Raven Sports team (could be a teammate, someone on another team, grade etc)  that you respect, admire or look up to?

Someone I look up to is definitely Neeharika. She has found ways to not only balance athletics and academics but also is talented at many other things. She is so humble that most people don’t even know half of what she also does outside of school. I admire her perseverance in everything she does and how no matter what, I always know she’s trying her hardest.

Favourite Covid 19 isolation pastime?

Something I spent a lot of time doing during our quarantine was learning how to paint. Although I’m not that skilled, I really enjoy just taking that time to myself and trying out a new painting idea.

How is it going as Co Prez?

So far I would say it’s going as well as expected. It’s very different compared to other clubs I’m used to but I’m learning as we go. Neeharika and I are really trying our best to push all the ravens to get involved. We really want to showcase what it really means to have raven’s spirit.

Favourite gym class game or activity?

Daggerball ! To this day, it’s the best gym game I’ve ever played.

What teams have you played on at LDH?

Over my 6 years at LDH, I’ve been a part of quite a few sports teams, such as volleyball, track & field, swim, nordic ski, badminton, and ultimate frisbee.

What are you looking ahead to doing after you are done at LDH?  School? work?

Next year, I am planning to study in a biology-related program in university, but I have no clue where yet!

Favorite sport?

Either volleyball or track and field.

What do you miss most about RAVEN ATHLETICS?

Everything. Going to track meets and different tournaments, as well as the whole atmosphere of the home basketball games.

Favorite colour?

Blue or purple

Favorite pro sports team?

Liverpool FC

Favorite food?

Greek food or wings

Member of a Raven Sports team (could be a teammate, someone on another team, grade etc)  that you respect, admire or look up to?

I can’t pick only one person, but two athletes that I look up to the most are Mia Hollingsworth and Rachel Antaya. They are always dedicated to their sports teams and are simply some of the best people I know.

Favorite Covid 19 isolation pastime?

Playing guitar and watching a lot of Netflix

How is it going as Co Prez?

It’s going pretty well. We’re trying our best to make everyone’s year amazing, but it’s so hard with COVID-19 and all the restrictions. Also, our Toy Mountain is constantly growing, which is amazing to see!

Favorite gym class game or activity?

DAGGERBALL!!! It’s always been my favourite gym class game, and I don’t think that is ever going to change.
